According to the provincial officials, the multilateral program to make the Gando-hosting region a tourist hub will be implemented in cooperation with the NGOs, and the Wetlands Conservation Program to raise public awareness, to preserve wildlife in Iran and also to boost tourism.
Gando, one of the tourist attractions of the province, is the only crocodile local to Iran and the largest reptile in the country.
It is interesting to know that this very intelligent and shy species is one of the rarest in the world and has a shorter snout than other similar species.
Gandos are considered by the locals to be the symbol of blessing and prosperity and they believe that with the migration and death of this animal, drought and famine will overshadow their lives.
Bahu Kalat and Sarbaz villages in Sistan and Baluchestan province have turned into a tourist attraction for their rare species of crocodiles found in Iran.
